I am able to install this , and get an updated driver off windows update. HOWEVER, in device manager, I see this message with a yellow "!"
This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)

I figured out the problem. I have the Inspiron 6400, so your mileage may vary.
When I updated the device Ricoh SD Bus Host Adapter (under SD host adapters in device manager) it messed up the Ricoh MMC Host Controller. So I went to device manager and rolled back the latest version for the SD bus Host Adapter (I am now using version 6.0.5384.4 dated 6/21/2006) and the problem was fixed.
So the MMC controller device driver wasn't really the problem. It was just the symptom.
Hope this helps.

I fixed it. Here is what you need to do:
In device manager find the device Ricoh SD Bus Host Adapter and roll back the driver to the previous version. I am running the version dated 6/21/2006.
Worked like a champ, and now my built-in memory card works.
